Mum and Baby Yoga (6 weekly sessions) with Ruth Spencer

Encouraging women to take a gentle route back into yoga and their bodies following birth, the postnatal class is run as a mother and baby yoga circle which helps facilitate a sense of community that is supportive and nurturing for new mothers and their infants. The aim of the circle is to prevent social isolation and provide you with confidence in handling your baby, interpreting cues as well as nurturing you in the postnatal period through the practice of yoga.

Classes involve Yoga postures that are taught in a gentle hatha-based style and help close down the body safely after birth, breathing and relaxation techniques, information on safe oils to use when massaging your baby, managing expectations and recognising early signs of postnatal depression and where to get help. We will end the course with a mothering ceremony to honour the woman’s transition to motherhood.

Requirements: This course of six sessions is open to women who had their 6 week post-natal GP Visit and babies from 6 weeks to crawling.

What to bring to class: A water bottle, warm towel or rug to lie your baby on, a journal and a pen to write thoughts, feelings, ideas, notes. You are welcome to feed your baby throughout the class. Please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing.
