When we are willing to open to what moves through us, we can be met by a sense of friendship from the depths of our soul. Our own being is like a gravitational force inviting us to an intimate exploration of its life as us.
This befriending is such a genuine inclination. There is an instinctive knowing that the fertile ground of our lives is asking to be lovingly recognised and yet we are all challenged to follow this prompt with consistency. The simplest way of meeting these challenges is by trusting what we open to, to let the presence of our own nature be the guide and lead the way. Who we are wants us to recognise the wealth of being that is already present as us and to live life with stability and clarity. This is the true friendship that is the ground of being human, and not only effects ourselves but how we orientate to the people and the world around us.
One of the great advantages of sitting with a group of fellow people is how this spirit of friendship comes to the surface, and spreads beyond the boundaries of our own practice. We come together as a good company to explore and share this unfolding with curiosity and kindness. Although the meditation sessions happen on six nights, the invitation is to continue the exploration during the intervening weeks. Coming together in this way there is nourishment for everyone, whether our practice is just beginning or it is well established. There will be some guidance and also help offered for those who need to find a way off sitting in physical comfort.
Derek Elliott has a contemplative background and is also a senior yoga teacher. He has offered numerous meditation sessions and courses over the years.
