Chapter 3 (it’s only 6 pages) of The Bhagavad Gita about selfless service. I recommend the version introduced and translated by Eknath Easwaran as the text is not broken up by notes and there is a 3-4 page introduction to each chapter. Essentially The Mahabharata is an account of a war between two families around 3000BC. As battle is about to start on the plains of Kuruksetra, so does the Gita. The action is frozen while Arjuna, the captain of one army begs Krishna who is acting as his charioteer, to advise him in his doubts about war. What follows is a dialogue in which the god shares some of the highest spiritual truths and gives a practical guide to this little life. Krishna is the eighth avatar of Vishnu, a supreme god in his own right and the only one to have a mortal birth.
